Lucas has been needing more sleep since the first week of DI, and the 3rd dose of Vincristine and Doxorubicin completely tired him down. He is too tired to get up but luckily he was still hungry at 6am. He has been picky about his food. Rice, noodles, scallion pancake, dried tofu, bacon, fried fish fillet, milk and water. Nothing else can get through his mouth for the past five days.
Can we try: 1) For the milk, blend it with strawberry or blueberry. I think Lucian emailed you before about what we are eating every morning (use blender to mix boiled quick oats, boiled egg with banana, strawberry, and blueberry.) If it is sour, add some honey. 2) Congee (cook the rice thoroughly) mix with Shanghai Bok Choy. You can add a little of bacon since Lucas likes it. Other kinds of congee is great too, like fish congee, sweet yam congee, ground pork congee...3) When giving Lucas water, add some honey...My thought: the easier to digest the better. Small meal but frequently to gain energy back. I am eating small but frequent meal, too since my digestive system is all smaller than normal people. Hehe...
Thanks a lot for your recipes. I hope things are as easy as this. We adults know what's best for us and would eat things that don't taste good to us (actually all the food you described taste very good to me). But kids are different. I have tried to make Lucas eat things that he doesn't like, he actually gags and throws up. One solution is to have a feeding tube put in. But we hope to have as little artificial interference as possible.
DeleteYou are right - I still can remember how picky when I was little. My mom and dad tried very hard to feed me. They had to say something funny so I would laugh & I could open my mounth...at the moment, they had opportunity to put the food into my mounth. :)
DeleteDI seems rough from here. But you are inching along and the finish line is not too much farther. I hope he can maintain his weight through DI so you can avoid a feeding tube.
